With Shakib Al Hasan's retirement, questions have arisen about who will support Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the spin attack. There has been ongoing criticism regarding the lack of emerging young spinners in Bangladesh. Although spinner Hasan Murad is part of the squad, he did not find a place in the Mirpur Test XI. Another young spinner, Nayeem Hasan, who was part of the team, also failed to take any wickets. Ahead of the Chattogram Test, Taijul has voiced his support for Nayeem.
So far, Nayeem Hasan has played 11 Test matches, taking 36 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls in his hometown of Chattogram. Despite not taking any wickets in the Mirpur Test, Taijul believes Nayeem will excel at home.
Regarding the future of new spinners in the country, Taijul mentioned Nayeem's example at a press conference before the Chattogram Test: "It's not about emerging. If you look at Nayeem's record, you can see he’s doing quite well; he's not performing poorly at all. Just because he didn’t take wickets in one match doesn’t mean he can’t in the future. It can happen that a couple of matches don’t go well. You’ll see that in upcoming matches, InshaAllah, he will make a comeback."
Supporting the spinners, Taijul added, "Look at their past records. Miraz performed well in the last series and has played well against Pakistan and India. Nayeem’s past record is also good; he has performed well in Chattogram and Mirpur. It’s not fair to make decisions based on just one match."
When asked about the team combination for the second Test, Taijul replied, "It hasn't been finalized yet. Everyone has been asked to stay prepared. We will know tomorrow, on match day, who will be playing."
