Ben Stokes Reacts To England's T20 WC Exit
England was eliminated from the World Cup after losing to India in the semifinals. Chasing a target of 171 runs set by India, England was all out for just 103 runs, resulting in a crushing 68-run defeat in a one-sided match for the defending champions. England's Test captain, Ben Stokes, has spoken out about Jos Buttler's captaincy following this loss.
England is not having a great time in world cricket. In the ODI World Cup last year, under captain Jos Buttler's leadership, England was unsuccessful. In the T20 World Cup, they faced defeat against Australia and were in danger of exiting during the group stage after a rain-affected match against Scotland. Although they reached the Super Eight, they were easily defeated by India in the semifinals. Thus, like the ODI World Cup, white-ball captain Jos Buttler has failed to lead the team to a title in the T20 World Cup.
Despite the disappointment for captain Jos Buttler and his teammates, Ben Stokes sees a positive side. In an interview with BBC Sports, Stokes said, "Jos is someone who leads England from the front. All the teammates in the dressing room respect him."
Ben Stokes believes that under captain Jos Buttler and coach Matthew Mott, the England team is improving. He stated, "Reaching the semifinals of the T20 World Cup is an incredible achievement. Being part of sports means progressing. Reaching the semifinals of the World Cup is not bad."
Due to a knee injury, Stokes did not play in this World Cup, but his contribution to England's T20 team is remarkable. It was Stokes' outstanding innings in the 2022 T20 World Cup final that led England to victory.
So far, Stokes has played 43 T20 matches for England, scoring 585 runs at a strike rate of 128 and taking 26 wickets. In recognized T20 matches, the all-rounder has scored 3,023 runs and taken 93 wickets in 159 matches.
