Batting Collapse Hands Defeat to Young Tigers Against South Africa U-19
Bangladesh U-19 team suffered a five-wicket defeat against South Africa U-19 due to a disappointing batting performance in the Tri-Nation Series. The Proteas chased down the modest target of 176 runs in just 36.5 overs, with five wickets in hand, at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe.
After being sent in to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a shaky start, losing both openers for just 22 runs due to early strikes from Buanda Mazola. Rizan Hossain could only manage 17 before being dismissed.
Captain Azizul Hakim Tamim led the resistance with a gritty 59 off 81 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes, before falling to Jason Roles. When Tamim was dismissed, the score was 117/5. From there, Kalam Siddique stood tall at one end, as wickets kept tumbling at the other.
Kalam remained unbeaten on 49 off 61 deliveries, hitting 10 boundaries and a six, narrowly missing out on a half-century. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 175 in 44.5 overs, with Jason Roles picking up 3 wickets.
In reply, South Africa lost opener Zarich van early, but captain Mohammad Bulbulia (39) and Armand Malik (57) stabilized the innings with a 55-run stand.
Jason Roles (41*) and Vihan Pretorius (21*) then calmly saw the chase through. South Africa reached the target in 36.5 overs. For Bangladesh, Al Fahad was the most successful bowler, taking 3 wickets.
This loss highlights Bangladesh’s batting frailties, which they will need to address quickly in the ongoing tri-series.
