PCB Suspends Multiple Domestic Tournaments Amid Ongoing Security Crisis in Pakistan
Amid escalating security concerns, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended several ongoing and upcoming domestic men’s tournaments indefinitely. The decision comes in light of the deteriorating security situation in the country, particularly following recent drone activity near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
In an official statement issued from Lahore on Saturday, the PCB announced the immediate suspension of the Presidents Trophy Grade-II, the Regional Intra-District Challenge Cup, and the Inter-District U-19 One-Day Tournament.
The board stated that once the security situation stabilizes, all tournaments will resume from the same stage they were paused, and a revised schedule will be announced accordingly.
Initially, PCB had considered moving the remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches to the UAE. However, due to ongoing regional tensions and logistical complications, the league has now been suspended indefinitely.
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) has also paused the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a week, citing similar security concerns. With the UAE unavailable due to its prior commitment to the PSL, BCCI is now reportedly exploring South Africa as a potential alternative host.
Experts have warned that the current geopolitical instability is severely impacting cricket in South Asia. Cricket boards in both India and Pakistan are now being forced to prioritize player safety and international coordination before proceeding with their respective events.
