Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Litton Kumar Das as the new captain of the national T20I team. Despite his recent struggles with the bat, the 30-year-old opener does not see the added responsibility as a burden. Instead, Litton believes captaincy might prove to be a positive turning point in his career.

Facing the media for the first time since taking over the role, Litton said:

“There’s no pressure. As I’ve said before, even when I wasn’t captain, I performed poorly. So being captain doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll do worse. It could actually be an advantage. Since the opportunity has come, I’m trying to stay positive. Those who think positively eventually get results—and I believe I’m in that space.”

Litton, who has been out of form for a while, is hopeful that leadership might help him rediscover his rhythm:

“I’ve played badly without being captain, so now that I am captain, the opposite could happen—I might start performing better. There are both positive and negative sides to it, but I don’t have a specific role model whom I follow.”

He emphasized his effort to return to form, saying:

“I went through a rough patch where runs weren’t coming off my bat. But I kept trying—during the BPL, during the DPL. As a player, that’s all you can do—give your best. Sometimes, despite all efforts, success doesn’t come.”

Litton also welcomed the long-term nature of his captaincy role and sees it as an opportunity to build the team’s future:

“It’s obviously a positive thing. When you get an opportunity for a longer period, you can think long-term. Now it’s about how well I can organize the team within that time. I’m very hopeful. If there’s a long-term plan, and with the players I have, I believe we can achieve something good.”
