Bangladesh had already been knocked out of the gold and silver medal race after losing to Pakistan in the semifinal of the Asian Games. With Sri Lanka sending a second-string side, Bangladesh had a good opportunity to win the bronze medal. However, Litton Das and his team ultimately had to return home empty-handed, ending their campaign in disappointment.
Explaining the reasons behind the team’s poor performance and collapse, Bangladesh T20I captain Litton Das praised the opposition batter’s outstanding innings at the post-match press conference. He said, “The explanation for the loss is that we did not play good cricket. I felt that we bowled very well in the first eight overs. Then you saw how a batter came in and played the kind of shots he did on this wicket, which was very difficult. But he batted extraordinarily well, and our bowlers had no clue how to make a comeback from there. So, credit has to be given to him.”
Although Bangladesh failed to contain Sri Lanka with the ball, the batters were completely unable to create a path for a comeback. Admitting that the team failed to put up any resistance throughout the innings, the Bangladesh captain added, “And when we went out to bat, we could not cover that up in any way. In terms of batting, we were not up to the mark today.”
Despite having high hopes for the team before the competition began, the captain described ending the campaign without a medal as extremely disappointing. Expressing his regret after missing their final opportunity, the Bangladesh captain said, “It’s a very bad result. We came here with a very big target. When that did not happen, there was another option. We missed that opportunity. There was an opportunity, but we could not play good cricket, and that is why we lost the chance.”
Throughout the tournament, captain Litton himself struggled badly with the bat instead of providing support to the bowlers. He was dismissed for just two runs in the opening match and was out for a duck in the final game. Taking full responsibility for his own poor form and performance alongside his duties as captain, Litton admitted frankly, “My performance was not up to the mark. I could not perform well in either of the two matches.”
