BCB's clarification on Towhid Hridoy Incident

Although Towhid Hridoy, the acting captain of Mohammedan Sporting Club, was handed a two-match suspension for his altercation with an umpire during the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that the ban will not take immediate effect. Instead, the suspension has been deferred for 12 months.

In a statement issued by the BCB on Friday (April 25), it was stated that the notice issued by the Umpires Committee on April 19 had been reviewed and deemed inconsistent, leading to its formal cancellation. As a result, any decision based on that notice is no longer valid.

However, the initial two-match suspension handed to Hridoy under DPL regulations has been reinstated following technical directives. Despite this, the BCB’s Technical Committee has decided to suspend the implementation of the ban for a period of one year.

According to the BCB, this decision was made to maintain the tournament's continuity and to encourage unity and sportsmanlike conduct among players. The board also noted that the Technical Committee reserves the right to revise rules and codes of conduct to prevent similar situations in the future.

Through this decision, while Hridoy’s punishment remains officially in place, the young batter has avoided the immediate risk of being sidelined from matches.
