After the Pakistan series and before the India tour, Shakib Al Hasan played a County match in England. Representing Surrey, Shakib took a total of 9 wickets in just one match. Thus, it can be confidently said that Shakib's preparation with the ball has been excellent before the India series. Bangladesh's head coach Chandika Hathurusingha is understandably pleased with Shakib's current performance and his extensive career experience.
On September 15, the Bangladesh team arrived in Chennai, India, the venue for the first Test. The Test series will start on September 19. Today, for the second consecutive day, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team practiced at Chepauk.
When asked about Shakib Al Hasan at the press conference, the head coach said, “He (Shakib) is probably the international player with the longest career at this moment. And now he has played a County match as well. His physical condition is also good. So, he will contribute not just with his skills but in many other aspects for the team.”
“He always plays a significant role whenever he is part of the team. As we look to balance the team, having him makes that task much easier. The fact that we can use him as an extra bowler or an extra batter is due to his all-round abilities. He not only simplifies that balance but also brings in his vast experience.”
In the County Championship, Shakib made a mark by playing just one match. In his debut for Surrey, he delivered an exceptional performance with the ball. In the first innings, he bowled 33.5 overs, conceding 97 runs and taking 4 wickets. In the second innings, he bowled 29.3 overs, conceding 96 runs and claiming 5 wickets. Thus, Shakib took a total of 9 wickets in the match.
