BCB explanation on not paying cricketers World Cup money
Recently, there have been allegations that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not paid the prize money from the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup to the players. However, the BCB has officially denied these claims and has strongly protested against such false accusations.
In a press release on Tuesday, the BCB stated, "There is no negligence on the part of the BCB regarding the delay. Prize money for ICC events is usually received within a few weeks after the tournament ends. The vouchers for the tournament, which concluded in November 2023, have been given to the ICC. However, delays in payment are due to tax and related reasons."
Additionally, it was mentioned that the BCB does not directly oversee the payment of the prize money to the players. The responsibility for recovering the dues has been assigned to Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP, a renowned international accounting firm from India. The BCB also claims that the players' payments might be processed within the next week.
It is not only Bangladesh but also other participating countries and their players in the World Cup who have not yet received their prize money.
It is noteworthy that the issue of unpaid World Cup prize money was initially brought to light by Debabrata Pal, General Secretary of the Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB). He had stated that the BCB was holding back the players' prize money. However, the BCB has now denied these claims.
