Tanzid Hasan Admits Responsibility Ahead of Crucial Second ODI Against Sri Lanka
Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim has admitted his disappointment at failing to meet team expectations despite scoring a half-century in the first ODI loss to Sri Lanka. Speaking before the second match in Colombo, the young left-hander rejected the idea that he had "played well," saying runs only matter if they serve the team's cause.
"I don't think I played well. I couldn't do what the team needed," Tanzid said. "It's a three-match series, and the next game is very important. There's still a chance to come back."
Bangladesh were cruising at 100 for 1 in the chase before a sudden collapse saw them lose 7 wickets for just 5 runs. Tanzid pointed to the crucial run-out of Najmul Hossain Shanto and his own dismissal as turning points.
"We were building a good partnership. That run-out and the catch they took were unlucky for us. If we had added 30–40 more runs, it would have been much easier," he explained. "This wicket demands that set batters play long innings."
Tanzid emphasized the importance of patience and responsibility for those who get set at the crease. "Our message is that new batters should take their time. Those who are set need to try to finish the game."
Bangladesh must win Saturday's second ODI to stay alive in the series. Tanzid's candid self-assessment and call for greater application reflect a team determined to fight back.
