James Anderson, a name synonymous with the England Test team, is set to retire. Anderson will end his 21-year playing career on July 10, during the first Test between England and the West Indies. However, he will continue to be associated with the team in a different role.

The 41-year-old James Anderson will be seen with the team even after retiring from Test cricket. Post-retirement, Anderson will serve as a mentor or advisor to England's fast bowlers. Rob Key, the Managing Director of the England cricket team, confirmed the news on Monday.

Rob Key said, “Even after the Lord’s Test, Jimmy Anderson will stay with our team. He will help the team as a mentor or advisor. He has a lot to offer English cricket. We don’t want to lose that potential.”

Rob Key further mentioned that Anderson has agreed to take on the mentoring role, saying, “When we asked him about it, he showed great enthusiasm. There are many things he can do in the future. If he stays involved with the game, English cricket can consider itself very fortunate.”

James Anderson has played a total of 187 Test matches. He is the first pace bowler and the third overall to reach the milestone of 700 wickets in Test cricket.

It is not yet known whether he will retire from first-class cricket as well. Rob Key mentioned that Anderson might decide on his future with Lancashire after the Lord’s Test, saying, “He will decide whether to continue playing for Lancashire after the Lord’s Test.”
