A New Face in Youth and Sports Through the Technocrat Quota: Aminul Haque
Despite facing defeat in the electoral race, former star footballer Aminul Haque has secured a place in the state leadership. Under the technocrat quota, he has been appointed as the State Minister for the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the BNP-led government.
On Tuesday (February 17) afternoon, Aminul Haque, the convener of Dhaka North BNP, took part in the swearing-in ceremony of the cabinet, formally assuming his new role.
Earlier, in the 13th National Parliamentary Election held on February 12, he contested as a BNP candidate from the Dhaka-16 constituency. However, he was defeated by Jamaat candidate Colonel (Retd.) Abdul Baten. Although unsuccessful in the election, his inclusion in the cabinet through the technocrat quota has positioned him in a significant political role.
As a former national footballer, Aminul Haque brings extensive experience from the country’s sporting arena. He represented the national team for many years and made notable contributions in domestic football leagues, earning recognition within the football community. Observers believe that his experience could play an important role in advancing sports development, modernizing sports policy, and strengthening youth initiatives.
Party leaders and sports enthusiasts expect that, alongside his political and organizational responsibilities, Aminul Haque will be able to inject new momentum into the youth and sports sector by utilizing his sporting background.
