Lahore Qalandars Begin Global Super League Campaign with Victory

Lahore Qalandars got their Global Super League campaign off to a winning start with a 16-run victory over the Perth Scorchers XI in the tournament’s opening match at Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Shayan Jahangir and Farhan Yousuf played the leading roles in Lahore’s victory with explosive batting performances. Bangladesh national team wicketkeeper-batter Parvez Hossain Emon was included in the Qalandars’ playing XI and performed his duties responsibly behind the stumps.

After winning the toss, the Perth Scorchers XI elected to field first. Lahore suffered an early setback when opener Shamil Hossain was dismissed for just 4 runs. However, fellow opener Shayan Jahangir steadied the innings while maintaining an aggressive scoring rate. He struck a brilliant 65 off 45 balls, smashing eight fours and three sixes. Abdullah Shafique, batting at No. 3, contributed 12 runs.

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Parvez Hossain Emon came in to bat at No. 4 but failed to make an impact with the bat. He managed just 3 runs from 9 deliveries before being caught by Ashton Turner off the bowling of D’Arcy Short.

Captain Michael Bracewell added 10 runs before departing, but a late onslaught from Farhan Yousuf propelled Lahore to a competitive total. Farhan blasted 50 runs from just 23 balls, hitting three fours and five sixes. Usama Mir then provided a quick cameo of 9 runs from 3 deliveries as Lahore Qalandars posted a strong total of 171/7 in their allotted 20 overs. For Perth, Jhye Richardson claimed three wickets for 37 runs, while Brody Couch picked up two wickets for 29 runs.

Chasing a target of 172, Perth got off to a promising start through opener Andre Fletcher, who scored 35 runs off 22 balls. Usman Khan kept the chase alive with 41 runs from 32 deliveries, including three fours and two sixes. Deian Forrester added 23 runs late in the innings, but Lahore’s disciplined bowling attack restricted Perth to 155/7 in their 20 overs, sealing a 16-run victory for the Qalandars.
