Rajshahi Defeat Sylhet by 5 Runs in a Thrilling Contest
Unable to cope with the pressure of victory, Sylhet Titans eventually fell short with the bat. In a nail-biting encounter, Sylhet suffered a 5-run defeat against Rajshahi Warriors, making their chances of securing a place in the first qualifier increasingly difficult. With this win, Rajshahi Warriors moved to the top of the points table outright.
In the BPL match held on Friday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Rajshahi Warriors, batting first, posted 147 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Sylhet Titans were restricted to 142 for 9.
Rajshahi did not get off to a strong start, but captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim steadied the innings with a 56-run partnership for the third wicket. Mushfiqur scored 40 runs, while Shanto contributed 34. Towards the end, Abdul Gaffar Saklain added an unbeaten 16 runs. For Sylhet, Nasum Ahmed and Shahidul Islam picked up two wickets each.
Chasing the target, Sylhet lost both openers early. Parvez Hossain Emon and Mominul Haque tried to rebuild the innings, but the required run rate kept mounting. Despite a late flurry of 27 runs from Moeen Ali, it was not enough to secure victory.
Parvez Hossain Emon top-scored for Sylhet with 41 runs. For Rajshahi, Ripon Mondol delivered an outstanding bowling performance, claiming four wickets, while Binura Fernando took two.
