Cummins targets IPL return in second half after injury setback

Australia captain Pat Cummins is on the road to recovery from a back injury and has set his sights on returning during the second half of the IPL, including the playoffs. Although he will miss the start of the tournament, the star pacer remains focused on regaining full fitness after being ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a lumbar stress injury.

Cummins has played very little cricket since first suffering the injury in July last year. He featured in just one Test during the Ashes in December and has since been working to regain his rhythm. He has now resumed bowling in the nets and is currently bowling every three days as part of his rehabilitation. If everything goes according to plan, he hopes to rejoin the squad fully fit by the middle of the tournament.

In Cummins’ absence, Ishan Kishan will lead Sunrisers Hyderabad at the start of the IPL season. Cummins expressed confidence in Kishan’s leadership, believing his recent experience captaining in domestic cricket will help him guide the team effectively. He also mentioned relying on experienced Indian teammates, especially to overcome minor language barriers within the squad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have not won the title since 2016, are aiming for a fresh start this season. Cummins could play a crucial role in that ambition—provided he returns to full fitness in time.
