Bangladesh Enter New Era with Three Captains for Three Formats

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially ushered in a new era by appointing separate captains for each format of international cricket. Ahead of the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named the new captain of the One Day International (ODI) team, completing the trio of format-specific leadership.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, who previously led across formats, will now solely captain the Test side. Earlier this year, Litton Das was entrusted with the T20I captaincy before the UAE and Pakistan series. Now, Miraz takes the reins of the ODI team for the next 12 months.

This strategic shift signifies Bangladesh’s commitment to building specialized leadership for each format, aiming to optimize performance and manage workload.

Miraz, who has played 105 ODIs, has scored 1,617 runs and taken 110 wickets so far. His leadership debut will begin with the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in July.

Reacting to his appointment, Miraz said:

“It’s a great honor for any cricketer to be given the opportunity to lead their country. I am grateful to the board for the trust they’ve shown in me. I have full confidence in this team. We want to play brave cricket, play with confidence, and feel proud to represent our nation.”

With this new leadership structure, BCB hopes to foster a stronger, more focused team culture in each format, starting with the Sri Lanka series.
