Bangladesh star Shakib Al Hasan announced his retirement from Test and T20I cricket in September 2023, marking the end of a remarkable era. Since then, his wicket and run tallies have remained unchanged—149 wickets in T20 Internationals being his final figure. Now, New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi has overtaken him.

In the tri-nation series match against Zimbabwe, Sodhi reached the 150-wicket milestone in T20 Internationals, becoming only the third player in history to do so. The leg-spinner has taken 150 wickets in 126 matches, averaging 22.53 with a strike rate of 16.99.

Shakib’s T20I Legacy

Shakib’s T20I career officially ended with the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he played his final match for Bangladesh in the format.
His T20I stats:

  • Matches: 129

  • Innings (Batting): 127

  • Runs: 2,551

  • Average: 23.19

  • Strike Rate: 121.18

  • Wickets (Bowling): 149 in 126 innings

  • Bowling Average: 20.91

  • Economy Rate: 6.81

  • Strike Rate (Bowling): 18.4

  • Best Figures: 5/20

Now ranked 4th on the all-time T20I wicket-takers list, Shakib sits just behind Sodhi (150) and ahead of fellow Bangladeshi Mustafizur Rahman, who has 139 wickets to his name.
