England Go 1-0 Up After Fiery Batting Display Against New Zealand
At The Oval, England outclassed New Zealand by 65 runs, thanks to explosive batting from Phil Salt and Harry Brook. After the first T20I was washed out by rain, this emphatic win gave the visitors a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, England got off to a flying start. Opener Phil Salt went after the Kiwi bowlers from the beginning, smashing boundaries all around the ground. He scored a blistering 85 off just 56 balls before being dismissed by Kyle Jamieson, narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century.
Captain Harry Brook then took charge, producing an even more destructive knock — 78 off just 35 balls. Powered by Brook’s fireworks, England piled up a massive 236 for 4 in their 20 overs.
In reply, New Zealand crumbled under pressure. Despite some resistance from Tim Seifert (39 off 29) and captain Mitchell Santner (36 off 15), Adil Rashid’s spin proved too much to handle. Rashid bagged four wickets for 32 runs, dismantling the Kiwi middle order, while Liam Dawson provided solid support from the other end.
New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 171 in 18 overs. With this dominant victory, England take a 1–0 lead in the series and will look to seal it in the final match on Thursday.
