Cricket’s Olympic Return Confirmed for Los Angeles 2028

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially confirmed the dates for cricket’s much-anticipated return to the Olympic Games. Men’s and women’s T20 cricket tournaments will be held at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics from 12 July to 29 July.

Women’s medal matches are scheduled for 20 July, while the men’s final will be played on 29 July. This marks cricket’s return to the Olympics after a gap of 128 years. The last time the sport featured was at the 1900 Paris Olympics, where Great Britain defeated France to win gold.

In Los Angeles, both men’s and women’s events will feature six teams each. Each competition will have a quota of 90 players, allowing every team to name a 15-member squad.

All matches will take place at Pomona Fairplex, located about 50 kilometers from downtown Los Angeles. The daily schedule will include double-headers, with matches starting at 9:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. local time.

Analysts see this move to bring cricket onto the Olympic stage as a major opportunity to boost the sport’s global popularity and visibility.

Meanwhile, the qualification pathway for the 2028 Olympics has not yet been finalized. The ICC is expected to discuss and possibly decide on the qualification criteria during its annual conference in Singapore starting 17 July.
