Khulna Tigers Secure Playoff Spot with Dominant Win Over Dhaka Capitals
In a crucial match for the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) playoffs, Khulna Tigers defeated Dhaka Capitals by 6 wickets, securing their place in the top four. The win, which came after limiting Dhaka to just 123 runs, saw Khulna advance to the playoffs due to their superior net run rate.
The day began with the hope for Durbar Rajshahi, who were waiting for Dhaka to defeat Khulna, but things went the other way. Rajshahi's elimination was confirmed with this defeat. The victory saw Khulna, led by Mehedi Hasan Miraz, seal their playoff spot.
Dhaka, having already been knocked out, could not give a competitive fight in this match. Batting first, they struggled right from the start, losing their wickets regularly. Openers Mohammad Naim Sheikh and Afif Hossain, who were dismissed for ducks, left Dhaka in deep trouble at 14 for 2.
Khulna's captain, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, steadied the ship with Alex Ross, and the pair put together a 68-run partnership. Miraz’s quick 50 off 33 balls, along with Ross’s 22 off 19 balls, played a crucial role in guiding Khulna toward the target. Miraz’s well-executed knock helped push Khulna toward victory, despite Ross being dismissed early.
Earlier, Dhaka’s innings was led by Tanjid Hasan Tamim, who gave them a flying start, hitting 7 sixes in a rapid 50 off 28 balls. However, after his dismissal, Dhaka's batting order collapsed under pressure. Liton Das contributed just 10 off 10 balls, while Habibur Rahman Sohan scored only 3 runs. Sabbir Rahman added 20 runs with 2 fours and a six, but the batting collapse continued, and Dhaka was all out for 123 runs in 20 overs.
Khulna's bowlers, especially the Afghan all-rounder Farmanullah Shafi, contributed significantly, despite a shaky start. Shafi’s first over included a wide and a no-ball, conceding 19 runs. However, he bounced back and delivered two crucial overs, finishing with solid figures.
With this victory, Khulna Tigers have cemented their place in the playoffs, while Dhaka Capitals’ disappointing season came to an end with yet another loss.
