ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024 Announced
The ICC has revealed the Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024. The squad includes three players from England, two each from India, South Africa, and Australia, and one player each from Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
Smriti Mandhana (India)
India’s batter Smriti Mandhana scored 747 runs in 13 matches. She started the year with a 29-run innings against Australia in January and followed up with back-to-back centuries against South Africa in the first two ODIs of their series, where she amassed 343 runs and earned the Player of the Series title. Mandhana also hit a century against New Zealand in 2024.
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa)
Laura Wolvaardt scored 697 runs in 12 matches. In April, she scored an unbeaten 110 runs against Sri Lanka in the first ODI and followed it with a career-best 184* in the second match. She also played a brilliant 135-run knock against India in Bengaluru.
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu scored 458 runs and took 9 wickets in 9 matches. She scored a half-century in the second ODI against South Africa and followed it with a career-best 195* in the final match. Against the West Indies, her outstanding performances in the home series led Sri Lanka to a 3-0 victory.
Hayley Matthews (West Indies)
West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews scored 469 runs and picked up 9 wickets in 7 matches. She showcased her all-round skills throughout 2024, scoring an unbeaten 140 runs in the first ODI against Pakistan and another stunning knock of 141 runs in the third ODI, while also taking 6 wickets in the series.
Marizanne Kapp (South Africa)
Marizanne Kapp scored 114 runs and took 12 wickets in 11 matches. She played an unbeaten 50-run innings against Australia in Adelaide and followed it up with a vital 75 runs and 3 wickets for just 12 runs in the second match. Against Sri Lanka, she scored 77*, and her best performance came against India in Bengaluru with a superb 114-run innings.
Ashleigh Gardner (Australia)
Ashleigh Gardner took 20 wickets and scored 269 runs in 12 matches. Against South Africa, she scored 35 runs and took 2 wickets. Gardner excelled in the series against Bangladesh in Mirpur, where she scored an unbeaten 20* and took 3 wickets in the second ODI.
Annabel Sutherland (Australia)
Annabel Sutherland scored 369 runs and claimed 13 wickets in 12 matches. She started the year with 2 wickets against India and played an unbeaten 58-run knock in the opening match of the Mirpur series in March.
Amy Jones (Wicketkeeper, England)
Amy Jones scored 382 runs and made 15 dismissals in 12 matches. She started the year with scores of 92*, 48, and 50 against New Zealand in April, earning the Player of the Series title with a strike rate of 108.57. She also scored 50* against New Zealand later in the year.
Deepti Sharma (India)
Deepti Sharma claimed 24 wickets and scored 186 runs in 13 matches. Against South Africa in June, she took 2 wickets in each of the three ODIs. Against New Zealand, she scored 41 runs in one match and took 2 wickets for 30 runs in another. In another game, she bagged 3 wickets for 39 runs.
Sophie Ecclestone (England)
Sophie Ecclestone took 21 wickets in 11 matches and started the year as the No. 1 bowler. Against New Zealand, she claimed 3 wickets in each of the three ODIs with an impressive economy of 3.13. In May, she was named Player of the Series against Pakistan after taking 3 wickets in both the first and third ODIs.
Kate Cross (England)
Kate Cross took 19 wickets in 13 matches. She started the year with 2 wickets for 24 runs against New Zealand in Wellington. Cross consistently took wickets throughout the year, including 6 against New Zealand in April and 3 each in the May series against Pakistan and another series against New Zealand.
