Following the suspension of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has formally offered to host the remaining matches in England.

The decision to suspend the tournament came after a missile and drone strike near a military base in Pathankot, Punjab, which led to the abandonment of a scheduled match and the temporary shutdown of nearby airports. In response to the deteriorating security situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the suspension of the current IPL season.

Twelve group stage matches and four playoff fixtures remain in the tournament, which were originally scheduled to be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata. The ECB has expressed readiness to accommodate the remainder of the IPL, provided the BCCI and relevant international cricket authorities agree.

However, hosting the IPL in England would require significant adjustments to both domestic and international cricket calendars. Sources indicate that a September restart is being considered, after the conclusion of England's domestic season.

This would not be the first time the IPL has been relocated due to security or political concerns — previous editions have been held in South Africa and the UAE. The ECB’s proposal has sparked widespread discussion in global cricketing circles.

Final decisions are pending as the BCCI continues to consult with the ECB and other key stakeholders. The course of action will depend heavily on ongoing security assessments and logistical feasibility.
