Shakib Al Hasan Arrives in Islamabad to Join Lahore Qalandars for Crucial PSL Clash
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has officially arrived in Islamabad to join Lahore Qalandars ahead of their must-win clash in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024. Shakib landed in the early hours of May 17, and will be available for the crucial encounter against Peshawar Zalmi on May 18 in Rawalpindi.
Alongside Shakib, Sri Lankan stars Kusal Perera and Bhanuka Rajapaksa have also joined the Qalandars' squad, boosting the team’s strength ahead of what is effectively a quarter-final for them. Lahore must win this match to qualify for the playoffs; a loss will eliminate them from the tournament.
Though initially brought in as a replacement for injured New Zealander Daryl Mitchell, Shakib is currently expected to play only this one league-stage game. However, if Lahore qualifies for the playoffs, he could feature in more matches depending on his availability and team requirements.
This marks Shakib's return to competitive cricket after nearly six months. He last played a professional match on November 30, 2023, representing Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. His return is a significant boost for Lahore as they aim to keep their title hopes alive.
The PSL, which was temporarily postponed due to India-Pakistan tensions, resumes today (May 17), with the remaining league fixtures and playoffs to be held in Rawalpindi and Lahore. The PSL 2024 final is scheduled for May 25.
