Shubman Gill Named India’s New Test Captain for England Series
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, marking the beginning of a new era in Indian Test cricket. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain of the Indian Test team, succeeding Rohit Sharma, who recently announced his retirement from the format.
With Rohit’s departure, the selectors have entrusted Shubman Gill with the responsibility of leading India in the longest format. Rishabh Pant has been named the vice-captain of the Test squad.
So far, Gill has played 32 Test matches for India, scoring 1,893 runs in 59 innings at an average of 35.05. His Test career includes five centuries and seven half-centuries. Recognizing his potential and with an eye on the future, the BCCI has handed him the leadership baton.
The 18-member squad for the England tour also includes Karun Nair, Shardul Thakur, and Sai Sudharsan, while experienced pacer Mohammed Shami has not been included in the squad.
