India clinched the five-match T20I series against Australia 2–1, securing back-to-back series victories. The final match in Brisbane on Saturday was abandoned due to rain, handing the visitors the trophy.
One of the first four matches of the series was also washed out. Of the remaining three, India won two and Australia one, making the fifth and final game the decider. However, nature had other plans. After winning the toss, Australia opted to field. Batting first, India reached 52 without loss in 4.5 overs before the rain arrived.
Opener Abhishek Sharma remained unbeaten on 23 off 13 balls, hitting one six and one four, while fellow opener Shubman Gill was not out on 29. Soon after, the rain came pouring down, and play never resumed.
Before the interruption, Abhishek Sharma reached a personal milestone—he became the second-fastest Indian to score 1,000 runs in T20 Internationals, achieving the feat in just 28 innings. Only Virat Kohli reached the mark faster, in 27 innings.
On the same day he reached the 1,000-run mark, Abhishek also earned the Player of the Series award for scoring 163 runs in the five-match series.
The record for the fastest to 1,000 T20I runs globally is jointly held by England’s Dawid Malan and the Czech Republic’s Sabawoon Davizi, both reaching the milestone in 24 innings.
With the final match abandoned, the series result was sealed 2–1 in India’s favor. This marks India’s second consecutive T20I series win in Australia and their third multi-match T20I series victory on Australian soil, with the other two series ending in draws.
