Chittagong Kings Seal BPL 2025 Final Spot with Thrilling 2-Wicket Win Over Khulna Tigers
Chattogram Kings made a remarkable comeback, securing their place in the 2025 BPL Final with a commanding victory over Khulna Tigers in the second qualifier. The Kings, led by Mohammad Mithun, clinched the win by 2 wickets and will now face Fortune Barishal in the much-anticipated final on 7th February.
Chattogram Kings' victory marks their first final appearance since 2013, where they were runners-up. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach the playoffs in subsequent seasons, they have finally made it back to the top. This triumph over Khulna Tigers, who had previously crushed Rangpur Riders in the eliminator, ensured their place in the BPL 2025 Final.
Khulna Tigers' Struggle with the Bat
Khulna Tigers, after being invited to bat first, couldn’t capitalize on a strong start and ended up posting a modest total of 163/6. Despite Shimron Hetmyer’s explosive knock of 63 runs off 33 balls, the Tigers couldn’t accelerate in the latter stages. Hetmyer’s stunning innings, which included 3 sixes and 1 four, was the highlight for Khulna, as they fell short of a competitive total.
Mahirul Islam Ankon also played a vital role, contributing 41 runs off 28 balls, but Khulna couldn’t find enough partnerships to push their score higher. The team's top order, including Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mohammad Naim, and Afif Hossain, failed to get going, which placed additional pressure on Hetmyer to deliver the goods.
Khulna's Scorecard:
- Shimron Hetmyer – 63 (33 balls)
- Mahidul Islam Ankon – 41 (28 balls)
- Khulna Tigers – 163/6 in 20 overs
Chattogram Kings' Chase:
Set with a target of 164 runs, Chattogram Kings had an early scare as Hassan Mahmud got rid of Parvez Hossain Emon and Graham Clark with excellent deliveries. Both batsmen fell cheaply, scoring just 4 runs each. This left the Kings at 17/2, but Khaja Nafe and Hossain Talat steadied the ship with a partnership that put the chase back on track.
The two Pakistani players combined for a 70-run partnership, with Talat looking particularly dangerous, scoring a quick 40 runs off 25 balls. However, Nasum Ahmed brought Khulna back into the game by dismissing Hossain Talat, sending him back to the pavilion after a promising knock. Nasum's double-strike continued with the crucial wicket of Shamim Hossain, who couldn’t get going and was dismissed for just 5 runs off 7 balls.
But Chattogram’s opener, Khaja Nafe, was in no mood to back down. He continued his aggressive approach, scoring 50 runs off 36 balls and guided the Kings towards victory. With a steady hand, Nafe provided the finishing touches and led Chattogram to their much-awaited final.
