Bangladesh Opts to Bowl First with 3 Pacers in Antigua vs West Indies

After their home series against South Africa, Bangladesh returns to Test cricket, this time facing West Indies in Antigua. The first Test between Bangladesh and West Indies has begun today. The hosts officially announced their playing XI the day before the match. Winning the toss today, Bangladesh decided to bowl first.

The West Indies, having announced their playing XI the previous day, have selected four pacers in their lineup. The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium is known for offering extra assistance to fast bowlers, prompting the hosts to opt for four pacers in their team to put pressure on Bangladesh's batters.

In contrast, Bangladesh has chosen to bowl with three pacers and two spinners. Taskin Ahmed will lead the pace attack alongside Shariful Islam and Hasan Mahmud. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will be supported by Taijul Islam in the spin department.

The West Indian pace attack consists of Alzarri Joseph, Shamarh Joseph, Kemar Roach, and Jayden Seales, while only Kavem Hodge will provide spin options for the hosts.

It’s rare for Bangladesh to field four pacers, but considering the conditions, they have opted for three pacers to begin the match.
