New Bangladesh Head Coach Phil Simmons arrived in Dhaka

Phil Simmons, who has replaced Chandika Hathurusingha as the head coach of the Bangladesh national team, arrived in Dhaka this morning (Wednesday). He will start working with Najmul Hossain Shanto's team in preparation for the ICC Test Championship series against South Africa from Friday.

The 61-year-old coach Phil Simmons has reached an agreement to work with the BCB until the ICC Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan next year. Upon arriving in Bangladesh, Simmons will rest and complete formalities with the BCB. He is scheduled to begin practice with the national team at 10 AM on Friday.

BCB president Faruk Ahmed expressed happiness over the announcement of Simmons as coach. In a statement from the BCB, Faruk Ahmed commented on the new head coach:

"I had the opportunity to speak with Phil Simmons and hear about his cricket philosophy and ideas. His extensive coaching experience, perspective, and proven track record of success make him an ideal choice for this role."

Simmons has a distinguished career as a coach, which was considered by the BCB. He was the head coach during the West Indies' second T20 World Cup victory in 2016. Under his leadership, the Bangladesh team will participate in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Simmons, a former medium-fast bowler and opening batsman for the West Indies, retired from international cricket in 2002. His coaching experience is quite extensive, having coached the national teams of Zimbabwe, Ireland, West Indies, Afghanistan, and Papua New Guinea.
