Unlike typical ICC events, the ICC T20 World Cup this time has seen lower scoring games, especially in the USA and West Indies, where batters have struggled to score runs. The match between Bangladesh and Nepal at Saint Vincent was played on such a tricky wicket, where Bangladesh managed to defend a total of 106 runs.
The Bangladeshi players believed that their total of 106 could be defended, and the bowlers turned that belief into reality. In the post-match press conference, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said, "We realized the pitch was tricky after we had batted for 10-15 overs. The total we put up (106) was one we all believed could be defended. Honestly, it’s not just because we won. During the break, everyone believed we could win the match from there. The bowlers made it possible."
Shanto praised the contributions of Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who bowled a continuous spell of 4 overs at the start, and Mustafizur Rahman, who bowled brilliantly towards the end. He also credited the fielders for their crucial efforts.
“Tanzim Sakib bowled exceptionally well in the powerplay, completing 4 brilliant overs on the trot. Mustafiz’s 19th over was a maiden with a wicket. The bowling unit worked cohesively and performed outstandingly. I must give credit to the fielders as well. They saved several boundaries and Rishad, in particular, took some key catches at point and saved multiple boundaries. The combination of bowling and fielding was excellent, and everyone believed we could win the match," Shanto added.
Shanto mentioned that he took the risk of letting Tanzim bowl 4 overs at the start because of the low total they had to defend.
“With the score we had, we had to take such risks. Otherwise, we might not have been able to win this way. Since we didn’t have a big total on the scoreboard, I hoped that the bowler who was performing well would take wickets and deliver dot balls," explained Shanto.
