South Africa to Decide on Bangladesh Tour This Week

South Africa will make a decision this week on whether to proceed with their tour of Bangladesh. Cricket South Africa (CSA) is waiting for a security report to assess the current situation in Bangladesh, which is currently marked by political instability. The political situation in Bangladesh appears to have stabilized, and South Africa is hopeful that the tour will proceed as planned.

Cricket South Africa (CSA), in consultation with the South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA), will decide by the end of this week whether their Test team will travel to Bangladesh next month for a two-match series. The decision is dependent on the security report, which has not yet been finalized.

South Africa is scheduled to play two Test matches in Bangladesh next month as part of the ICC World Test Championship. According to the Future Tours Programme, the series is set to start on October 21. However, if the security assessment identifies any risks, the Proteas may cancel the tour.

The decision on whether players are willing to tour Bangladesh will be made by the South African board. There is unlikely to be any personal preference involved. The outcome of the South Africa-Bangladesh tour is contingent on CSA’s security evaluation.

Before the Bangladesh tour, Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, and others will fly to the United Arab Emirates on September 14 for a series against Afghanistan and Ireland. If South Africa does go ahead with the Bangladesh tour, injured players Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee are unlikely to participate.
