Rangpur Reaches Final, Halting Dhaka Metro's Winning Streak
Rangpur secured their spot in the NCL T20 final by defeating Dhaka Metro by 4 wickets. Chasing a target of 108 runs set by Dhaka Metro, Rangpur completed the chase with four balls to spare. However, this loss doesn’t eliminate Dhaka Metro from the tournament. They will face Khulna in Qualifier 2 for another shot at the final.
At the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Dhaka Metro chose to bat first after winning the toss. The opening pair added 24 runs before Naim Sheikh departed for 11 runs. After Sadman Islam fell for 13, Rabiul Haque’s double strikes left Dhaka Metro struggling at 58/5.
Adding only 8 more runs to the scoreboard, Imranuzzaman was dismissed for a slow-paced 30 off 42 balls, which included 4 boundaries. In the latter stages, Aminul Islam Biplob contributed 23, while Abu Hider Rony added 16 to take Dhaka Metro to 107/9 at the end of their 20 overs.
For Rangpur, Rabiul Haque picked up 3 wickets, while Alauddin Babu claimed 2.
Chasing 108, Rangpur got a steady start from openers Chowdhury Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Al Mamun. Rizwan scored 17 off 20 balls, and Mamun contributed 17 off 21.
Coming in at number three, Naeem Islam added 16 runs. Ariful Haque chipped in with 22 off 20 balls before being dismissed. Tanbir Hayder finished the job, staying unbeaten with 22 off 26 balls as Rangpur reached the target with four balls remaining, losing six wickets.
