Defending champions Fortune Barishal have completed their player draft for the upcoming BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) season. They made the highest number of acquisitions, securing 13 players during the draft. Including retained players and direct signings, the franchise has assembled a 22-member squad.
Key players lighting up the draft table for Barishal included Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah Riyad. Once again, fans will see these three cricketing stars playing together for the same team. Joining them is the captain of Bangladesh's three formats, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and star leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has also been added to the squad.
Overall, Fortune Barishal has significantly solidified their lineup for the 2025 BPL. Following the retention process, they retained their preferred players, Tamim and Mushfiq. They then drafted Mahmudullah Riyad into the team. The spin department will be managed by Rishad along with experienced spinners Taijul Islam, Tanvir Islam, and Naim Hasan.
In the pace attack, Barishal will rely on Ebadot Hossain. Among local bowlers, they have two more pace options in Ripon Mondal and Shahidul Islam. Young middle-order batter Ariful Islam will also look to make his mark under Tamim Iqbal's leadership this season.
In terms of international signings, Barishal has made some exciting acquisitions. They have retained Mohammad Nabi, Kyle Mayers, David Miller, Fahim Ashraf, and James Fuller. From the draft, they brought in Sri Lankan batter Pathum Nissanka and South African pace bowler Nandre Burger. Additionally, two Pakistani players, pacer Mohammad Ali and Khan Jahanabad, are part of the squad.
