After an eight-month break from ODI cricket, Bangladesh is ready to face Afghanistan in a series hosted in the UAE. Before departing for the series, young batter Towhid Hridoy shared his thoughts with journalists outside the Academy Building at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Hridoy is optimistic about Bangladesh's chances, as ODIs have historically been the Tigers’ stronger format. "I hope we can start well, Insha'Allah. We’ve always performed well in this format, and I believe if we play to our strengths, we can achieve good results," Hridoy stated.
Despite recent setbacks, including a Test series whitewash against India and South Africa and a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, Hridoy remains focused. When asked if these results would impact their approach to the Afghanistan series, Hridoy emphasized professionalism and the importance of moving forward. "Every player here is a professional. There’s no point dwelling on the past; we just need to go game by game. What’s crucial now is how we start this series," he said.
Regarding Afghanistan’s strong bowling attack, particularly their spin, Hridoy expressed respect but no fear. "Their spin attack is indeed strong. Every international team has its strengths, and they field their best players. We will plan accordingly and try to execute those plans," he remarked.
Hridoy concluded by asking for the nation’s support, saying, "It’s natural for people to have high expectations. I am working hard to perform well, and I ask everyone to keep us in their prayers so we can achieve good results for the team and the country."
