Pakistan Announces Squad for Tours of Australia and Zimbabwe

The selectors of the Pakistan cricket team have announced a 15-member squad for the tours of Australia and Zimbabwe, where the national team will play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in both countries. The tour of Australia will take place from November 4 to 18, while the matches in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, will be held from November 24 to December 5.

The identity of Pakistan's white-ball captain will be revealed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in a media conference in Lahore on Sunday at 3:30 PM Pakistan time.

Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, who were rested for the last two Tests against England, are returning for the matches in Australia but will be given a break for the Zimbabwe tour. Similarly, Mohammad Rizwan will be available for the matches against Australia and the ODIs in Zimbabwe but will rest during the T20Is in Zimbabwe.

This decision is part of the Pakistani selectors' rotation policy, allowing domestic performers to adapt to the team’s strategy ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan.

Uncapped players in the ODI squad include Aamer Jamal, Arafat Minhas, Faisal Akram, Haseebullah, Muhammad Irfan Khan, and Saim Ayub. Jahandad Khan and Salman Ali Agha have joined the international T20 squad for the first time.

Kamran Ghulam, Omair Bin Yousuf, and Sufyan Moqim will make their debut for the national side, having previously participated in limited-overs internationals. Kamran played as a concussion substitute for Haris Sohail in an ODI against New Zealand, while Omair and Sufyan made their T20 debuts against Hong Kong during the Asian Games men's cricket competition.

Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain, who took 17 wickets in the Champions One-Day Cup in Faisalabad last month, also returns to the ODI side, having last represented Pakistan in an ODI against New Zealand in January 2023.

Apart from Babar, Naseem, Rizwan, Salman, and Shaheen, four other players have been selected in both the ODI and T20I squads: Arafat Minhas, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah, and Muhammad Irfan Khan.

Aamer Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Faisal Akram, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, and Saim Ayub have been selected solely for the ODIs and will be replaced in the T20Is by Jahandad Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Omair Bin Yousuf, Sahibzada Farhan, Sufyan Moqim, and Usman Khan.

Seven members of the ODI squad—Babar Azam, Faisal Akram, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi—will depart for Melbourne on Monday, October 28, while the remaining ODI players will leave on Tuesday, October 29. Pakistan's white-ball coach Gary Kirsten will join the squad in Melbourne on October 28.
