Mushfiqur Rahim Ruled Out of Afghanistan Series
Bangladesh suffered a major setback following their heavy defeat to Afghanistan last night. The team also received unfortunate news about their veteran player Mushfiqur Rahim, who sustained a finger injury while wicketkeeping in the first ODI. As a result, Mushfiqur has been ruled out for the remainder of the series.
Losing Mushfiqur, one of the team’s most experienced players, mid-series has put Bangladesh further on the back foot. The batting lineup struggled in Sharjah, resulting in a 92-run loss in the first ODI. Team management suspects a fracture in Mushfiqur’s finger.
Bangladesh opted to field first after losing the toss in Sharjah. Mushfiqur was injured during Afghanistan’s innings while keeping wickets, which led to a shift in his batting order. Coming in at number seven, Mushfiqur could only face three balls, scoring one run before being dismissed.
Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu confirmed to The Daily Star that Mushfiqur is unlikely to return for the remaining matches. "Yes, he has suffered an injury, and it seems to be quite serious. We will know the extent of it after further tests, but for now, it appears he will not play in this series," he said.
