ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominees for August 2024 revealed
The ICC has announced the shortlist for the Player of the Month Award for both men and women. The shortlist for the best players of August includes South African spinner Keshav Maharaj, West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales, and Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage for the men's category. In the women's category, Ireland's Orla Prendergast and Gaby Lewis, along with Sri Lankan batter Harshitha Samarawickrama, have made it to the shortlist.
Keshav Maharaj (South Africa)
Keshav Maharaj was named Player of the Series for his 13 wickets in two Test matches against the West Indies. In the drawn Test in Port of Spain, he took four wickets in each innings, including the wickets of three of the top four batters in the first innings and four of the top five batters in the second innings.
Jayden Seales (West Indies)
West Indies' new-ball bowler Seales secured a spot in the shortlist by ending the month with a total of 12 wickets, including 9 against South Africa. He achieved his career-best 13th position in the ICC men's Test bowling rankings.
Dunith Wellalage (Sri Lanka)
This left-arm all-rounder scored an unbeaten 67 and took 39 runs against India. He was named Player of the Series in the ODI series against India. In the third match, he took five wickets for 27 runs, finishing the series with a total of seven wickets.
Harshitha Samarawickrama (Sri Lanka)
Samarawickrama maintained her form from the Asia Cup through the Ireland tour. The left-handed batter scored 151 runs with a strike rate of 82.69 in two T20Is in Dublin, and with strike rates of 169.66 and 172 in three ODIs in Belfast. She made an unbeaten 86 off 45 balls in the first T20I and scored 105 runs in the second ODI.
Orla Prendergast (Ireland)
The 22-year-old Prendergast was the highest run-scorer for Ireland in the series against Sri Lanka. She scored an unbeaten 122 off 107 balls in the first ODI and was named Player of the Match. She also scored 29 and 38 runs in two T20Is.
Gaby Lewis (Ireland)
Lewis scored 158 runs at a strike rate of 146.29 in two T20Is, including 119 runs in the second match, which is the highest individual score for Ireland in this format. She scored 9 runs in the first ODI but missed the remaining two matches due to an injury.
