After two consecutive losses, Punjab Kings (PBKS) finally tasted victory in the ongoing IPL. They secured a comprehensive win against Gujarat Titans. Gujarat set a target of 199 runs after losing 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In response, Punjab, despite losing 7 wickets, reached the target with 1 ball to spare.
Punjab's innings got off to a shaky start as opener Shikhar Dhawan lost his wicket early. However, they managed to recover from the initial setback. While Mayank Agarwal and Prabhsimran Singh fell cheaply, Shahrukh Khan couldn't make a significant impact. Nevertheless, Shashank Singh held one end firmly.
Alongside Shashank, Jitesh Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma contributed with 16 and 31 runs respectively. Shashank remained unbeaten till the end, guiding Punjab to victory with just 7 runs needed off the final 6 balls.
Shashank scored 61 runs off 29 balls, comprising 6 fours and 4 sixes, ensuring Punjab's triumph.
Prior to Punjab's innings, Gujarat's captain Shubman Gill played a remarkable innings. Despite losing his partner Ruturaj Gaikwad early, Gill's innings wasn't prolonged. Williams and Sai Sudharsan supported Gill at number three and four respectively.
Williams scored 26 runs, while Sudharsan scored 33 runs. Gill's unbeaten innings was accompanied by Rahul Tewatia, who scored 23 runs off 8 balls. Gill scored 89 runs off 48 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes, before departing undefeated.
