England Test captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out for the remainder of the English summer due to a hamstring injury sustained while playing in The Hundred. The all-rounder suffered the injury to his left leg while playing for the Northern Superchargers against the Manchester Originals on Sunday. As a result, England's Test team will be led by Ollie Pope.
Stokes was injured while batting for the Northern Superchargers in their match against the Manchester Originals. His injury has forced him out of the upcoming Sri Lanka series.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced that Stokes will miss the three-Test series against Sri Lanka. England cricket is hopeful that Stokes will return for England's tour of Pakistan, which begins in early October.
Ollie Pope, who has not previously captained at the international level, will lead the team in Stokes' absence.
England's next assignment is the Test series against Sri Lanka, starting on August 21 at Old Trafford. The ECB has not yet announced a replacement for Stokes. Following the series against Sri Lanka, England will tour Pakistan for a three-Test series beginning on October 7.
