Campbell handed four-match suspension for part in Super50 final no-show
Jamaica Scorpions' captain, John Campbell, has been handed a four-match suspension for failing to appear at the toss during the match against Barbados Pride. The disciplinary action was imposed by Cricket West Indies (CWI). Campbell has since apologized for the incident through a statement released by CWI.
Campbell expressed his regret, stating, "I sincerely apologize for any disruption caused during the final, and I acknowledge that my actions could have been considered against the match officials' decision. It was never my intention to undermine their authority or disrespect the game. I fully accept the need to adhere to the officials' rules and decisions."
Due to rain disruptions, neither team's captain appeared for the toss in the final match, leading to the decision not to award a trophy for the Super Fifty's 2024-25 season. The board also confirmed that no match fees would be distributed for the final, and no prize money would be given to either the tournament winner or the runner-up.
Barbados Pride's captain, Ramon Reifer, has faced similar allegations, but no decision has yet been made regarding his case by the disciplinary committee.
Miles Bascombe, CWI's Director of Cricket, commented, "We appreciate Mr. Campbell's acknowledgment of the situation and his sincere apology. In light of his admission and remorse, Cricket West Indies considers this a Level 3 offense, imposing a four-match suspension."
He further stated, "This decision reinforces the importance of upholding sportsmanship and respect for the game, especially the pivotal role captains play in maintaining these values. We believe John Campbell will use this experience to make a positive contribution to West Indies cricket and serve as a role model moving forward."
