"I don't believe we are such a bad team"

India won the first T20 of the series by 7 wickets with 49 balls remaining. Earlier, Bangladesh was bowled out for 127 runs in 19.5 overs. In the post-match press conference, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto explained the loss, saying, "I don't believe we are such a bad team."

This year, Bangladesh's win-loss record in international T20s stands at 9-10. However, seven of those wins came against Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, Nepal, and the United States. Shanto was asked early in the press conference whether Bangladesh's T20 performance is deteriorating day by day.

Shanto disagreed with the idea that Bangladesh is such a bad team, stating, "I wouldn’t say we are getting worse. We are a better team than this. Although we haven’t been performing well in this format for quite some time, I don’t believe we are that bad of a team."

On the difference between India and Bangladesh, Shanto said, "It’s both in skills and mentality."

India only needed 128 runs to win. From the start, they played aggressively, scoring fifty in just 4.4 overs. By the end of the powerplay, India had scored 71 runs—the highest powerplay score against Bangladesh in T20Is. India reached 100 runs in just 9.3 overs and secured the victory by the 11.5th over.

In Bangladesh's innings, the highest partnership was 26 runs, which came from the third-wicket stand between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy. The second-highest was a 23-run partnership between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed for the eighth wicket. With Bangladesh losing wickets at regular intervals, Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten with the top score of 35 off 32 balls. Captain Najmul Shanto contributed 27 runs off 25 balls.
