Bangladesh suffered a heavy defeat against India, losing 8 wickets while chasing down a target of 120 runs, having started the fourth day at 26 for 2. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has attributed the loss to the irresponsible batting display of the team.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the batting performance, Shanto said, "We haven't batted well in both Tests. We need to perform better in these conditions. If you look at our batsmen, many got out after playing just 30 or 40 balls. It's crucial to play for a big score in Test matches."
Reflecting on the first Test, where Bangladesh lost 6 wickets for 144 runs, he highlighted the example set by Ashwin and Jadeja's partnership of 199 runs. "The way Ashwin and Jadeja batted was remarkable. As a bowling unit, we need to learn from such moments and figure out how to take wickets. We lost the match because of that partnership," he added.
Apart from Mominul Haque, no other batsman made a significant impact in the Kanpur Test. Mominul scored 107 runs in the first innings but failed to deliver in the second. However, his performance, along with Miraz's 4 wickets in the first innings, provided some consolation amid the defeat.
Shanto praised both Mominul and Miraz, stating, "The way Mominul batted in this innings will help us move forward. Miraz bowled well in both innings."
