Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a back injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed this news, announcing that Harshit Rana will replace Bumrah in the squad. Additionally, Varun Chakravarthy has been added to the final squad, replacing Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was initially part of the preliminary team.
Harshit Rana has been included in India's squad as Bumrah's replacement, while Varun Chakravarthy takes the place of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is dropped from the final squad despite being part of the preliminary list. With Jaiswal's exclusion, India's opening pair will consist of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
When the initial squad for the Champions Trophy was announced, Bumrah was included in the 15-member preliminary squad. However, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier hinted that Bumrah might not be fit for the tournament. Unfortunately, this concern became a reality, and Bumrah was ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Although the 2025 Champions Trophy will be hosted by Pakistan, it will follow a hybrid model. All of India's matches will be held in Dubai, including one of the semifinals and the final, if India qualifies.
