Shubman Gill Won't Be Part of India's T20I Series vs Bangladesh
Indian T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill will not participate in the T20I series against Bangladesh. The decision, made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is based on workload management ahead of the Test series against New Zealand.
The Bangladesh cricket team departed for India today, Sunday, for a tour that includes two Tests and three T20Is. Shubman Gill will be part of the Indian squad for the Test matches but will miss the T20I series.
A BCCI source told PTI, “Yes, Shubman will be rested for the T20I series against Bangladesh. Considering the schedule, there are three T20Is in October—on October 6, 9, and 12. The Test series starts on October 16, and with such a tight schedule, it is necessary to give Gill some rest.”
After the Bangladesh series, India will face New Zealand in October, where Gill is expected to play a crucial role. The series against New Zealand will feature two Tests, and the decision to rest Gill for the T20I series against Bangladesh is to ensure he is fully prepared and rested for the more demanding Test matches.
The Bangladesh team has already departed for India. The first Test will take place in Chennai on September 19, with the second Test scheduled for September 27 in Kanpur. The T20I matches will be held on October 6, 9, and 12.
