Shakib Al Hasan Faces Tough Times: BCB to Provide Legal Support Amidst Legal Issues

Shakib Al Hasan is going through a difficult period. Shortly after winning the election, he lost his MP seat, faced severe criticism for not supporting the student protests against discrimination, and then encountered a major setback when a murder case was filed against him. He also received a legal notice for being recalled from the national team and brought back to the country. Despite the murder case, Shakib is considered innocent until proven guilty, which is why the BCB has decided to provide him with full legal support.

As a contracted player with the BCB, Shakib is entitled to all the benefits that come with such a contract. Therefore, until he is proven guilty, he will have the support of the BCB. This was confirmed by BCB President Faruk Ahmed in an interview with the daily Prothom Alo.

Faruk Ahmed told Prothom Alo via phone, "Our decision regarding Shakib remains the same. He will continue playing. We received a legal notice regarding bringing him back to the country, and our response to that was the same."

Faruk Ahmed confirmed that Shakib has no restrictions on playing in the second Test against Pakistan. He also expressed his desire to include Shakib in the series against India. “The case against Shakib is still at the FIR stage. There are many more steps to go through. As long as the allegations against him are not proven, we will field him. After the Pakistan tour, the team will go to India, and we want Shakib there too.”

Faruk Ahmed further assured that the BCB will provide legal assistance if needed, saying, “He is our contracted player. We will provide him with legal support if required.”

The second Test against Pakistan will be held in Rawalpindi from August 30 to September 3. Following this, the Bangladesh cricket team will travel to India on September 15 for a series of two Tests and three T20s. During this period, Shakib is expected to go to England to play county cricket instead of returning to Bangladesh.
