Rishad Hossain's IPL Dream and Preparations for Upcoming Tournaments
Bangladesh's leg-spinner, Rishad Hossain, caught attention in the recent T20 World Cup for his impressive performances. Building on that success, he is set to play in the upcoming Big Bash League. His name is also listed in the IPL auction for this year. When asked about the chances of securing a spot in an IPL team, Rishad gave a straightforward answer: he has the desire to play but does not expect too much.
Every cricketer dreams of playing in the IPL, but Bangladeshi players don't often see much demand in the tournament. Rishad, too, is not overly optimistic about his chances. Speaking at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, he shared, "Everyone has the desire to play. But it's better not to expect too much. I never expect. That way, I won't be disappointed."
Rishad expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, "I have confidence in myself (that I'll get a team). Everyone goes through good and bad days. I'm not hoping for anything beyond what comes my way. When the opportunity arrives, we'll see."
While Rishad would prefer to play for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, he has not specifically thought about any team as of now. He added, "I haven't really thought about it. In my mind, I thought Chennai, but if I end up in another team, I might feel a bit disappointed. However, Kolkata is my favorite. Shakib Bhai has played there for a long time, so I support them."
Currently, Rishad is busy with his training sessions. He will soon travel to Guyana to play in the Global Super League for the Rangpur Riders. When asked about his goals for the tournament, Rishad said, "I haven't set any specific goals yet. I just want to take it match by match. I’ll go with a simple plan. Since we have four different teams to face, I will try to give my best. After the World Cup, I’ve been working on a lot of things, including variations and line-lengths. I hope to perform well in the upcoming series."
In the last T20 World Cup, Rishad took 14 wickets in 7 matches. However, his subsequent performances have not been as impressive. Although he took 3 wickets in a match against India, his overall performance has been below expectations.
It is worth mentioning that the IPL mega-auction will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A total of 12 Bangladeshi cricketers, including Rishad, will be part of the auction pool.
