Taylor Returns to Zimbabwe ODI Squad After Test Comeback
After serving his ban, Brendon Taylor has returned to international cricket in recent weeks, first in Test cricket and now in the ODI squad. The former Zimbabwe captain will feature in the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, bringing his vast experience of 205 ODIs to the team.
The 39-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has been named in Zimbabwe Cricket’s 16-member squad announced on Monday. Taylor had abruptly retired from ODIs after the September 2021 series against Ireland. Later, it was revealed that he faced sanctions under the ICC’s anti-corruption code and failed a drug test, leading to a three-and-a-half-year ban which ended last month. He made his international comeback with a Test against New Zealand.
With an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup, Zimbabwe Cricket, under Givemore Makoni’s leadership, has decided to reintegrate the experienced Taylor into the national setup. Following a long gap in ODIs since the Ireland series in February, Taylor will now face Sri Lanka in two ODIs on 29 and 31 August, followed by a three-match T20I series on 3, 6, and 7 September.
