Rain Threat Looms Over Bangladesh-Netherlands T20I Series in Sylhet

The three-match T20I series between Bangladesh and the Netherlands is set to begin today (Saturday) at 6 pm at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. However, weather has emerged as the biggest concern, with intermittent rain sweeping across Sylhet since early morning. Heavy downpours followed by light drizzle have soaked the city, and forecasts suggest further showers in the evening, creating uncertainty even before the first ball is bowled.

Rain has already disrupted both teams’ preparations in the build-up to the series. Despite starting their camp early in Sylhet, Bangladesh often found their practice sessions curtailed or cancelled due to persistent showers, forcing the players to return to the hotel. The Dutch team also faced similar setbacks, losing their opening day’s training entirely to rain.

Bangladesh captain Litton Das played down the issue, saying, “We have no control over nature. Whatever comes from above, we are satisfied with it.”

Netherlands coach Ryan Cook echoed the sentiment, remarking, “Yes, yesterday we couldn’t do anything because of the rain—it was beyond our control. With fixed tour dates, we had to adjust. Now we have just one day of practice left, and the boys will give their best.”

Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons, however, remained optimistic: “Our preparation has been good. Other than the rain interruptions, everything here has been fine. It’s hot, but manageable.”

As things stand, the biggest challenge for both teams is not the opposition but the weather itself. Cricket fans will be hoping the rain stays away and does not spoil the series opener in Sylhet.
