On the final day of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Galle, rain had halted proceedings, but play is set to resume at 2:40 PM Bangladesh time, according to the match officials. Ground staff have begun preparing the field as the weather has cleared.
Before the rain interruption, Bangladesh had extended their lead to 247 runs. After taking a slim 10-run first innings lead, the visitors reached 237 for 4 in 76 overs in their second innings when the rain arrived. Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim was run out for 49 on the last delivery of the 76th over, just before play was suspended.
Lunch was completed during the rain delay, but another short spell delayed further action. With skies clearing again, umpires have announced a revised schedule: up to 50 overs of play are possible today, with tea scheduled for 4:10 PM local time. A 20-minute break will be followed by the final session.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto remains unbeaten on 89 off 168 balls, holding firm at one end and eyeing a potential century.
