PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Hints at Major Changes in Pakistan Cricket

Following their defeat by 6 runs to India after a loss to the USA, last year's runner-up Pakistan is on the brink of elimination from the T20 World Cup. They lost to the inexperienced United States in a Super Over in their first match, and then narrowly lost again to their arch-rivals, India, in the second match. With consecutive defeats, Pakistan is now at the bottom of their group (just above Ireland). The path to the Super Eight has become increasingly difficult.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi is unable to accept the state of the former world champions. After Sunday's loss to India, he hinted at significant changes in the Pakistan cricket team. In a discussion with the media, he said:

"Initially, I thought only minor changes were needed in the team. But with such poor performance, it’s clear that major changes are necessary. The nation will see these implemented soon."

Naqvi expressed his disappointment with Pakistan's loss to India and hinted at internal issues within the team contributing to this defeat. According to him, the team's performance is at its worst. His primary objective now is to improve the team's performance.

Looking ahead to the 2025 Champions Trophy, Naqvi sees this as the right time to give opportunities to players who are not currently in the team. He stated:

"Our goal was to make Pakistan the best cricket team in the world. The nation does not expect such poor performances from them."
