With the Asia Cup and Netherlands series approaching, the Home of Cricket in Mirpur is buzzing with activity. From early morning, Bangladesh cricketers have been busy in training, while BCB’s Strength and Conditioning Coach Nathan Kelly has been working tirelessly to boost the players’ fitness levels. Not just in Mirpur, the Tigers have also been seen sweating it out at the National Stadium in Gulistan. Kelly expressed his satisfaction with the team’s physical readiness ahead of the Asia Cup.

After the Pakistan series ended on July 24, the players enjoyed a ten-day break before returning to an intensive fitness camp. Speaking to the media on Tuesday morning after several days of focused training, Kelly said he was highly pleased with the players’ current fitness.

“Some didn’t quite meet expectations in the time trial,” he noted, “but their performance in gym sessions was excellent. A fitness camp isn’t just about pass or fail—it’s about identifying areas for improvement and tailoring plans to help each player progress. We analyze individual strengths and weaknesses and prepare personalized programs.”

The past week’s camp brought remarkable results: 12 players achieved personal bests in time trials, and a total of 56 new records were set. Kelly believes this reflects the squad’s strong drive and competitive spirit. He singled out pacer Nahid Rana as an example: “Even when not playing, Nahid works on his fitness, which is outstanding. Whatever sport you’re in, being a good athlete is essential. Look at the top cricketing nations—their players are fit, strong, and athletic in every aspect. We must be the same.”

The fitness training will continue for one more day before the focus shifts to bat-and-ball skills. After several days of skill sessions in Mirpur, the team will travel to Sylhet, where the T20I series against the Netherlands begins on August 30.
